Tutoring & Instructional Support from Wendy 

​I taught in a traditional classroom for the first 8 years of my career, and more recently, I have over 5 years' experience tutoring students one on one or in small groups through online platforms. I have worked with students in grades K-8, and all of them show cognitive growth in addition to motivation and effort. I maintain engagement with students throughout virtual sessions and employ all my skills in social-emotional development, relationship building, and curricular development as well as second language learning, special education, and gifted/talented to make a positive difference for kids. Relationships, rigor, and relevance are three main keys to success.

Process

1. Build a relationship with the student and the parent/guardian/teacher.

2. Evaluate the student’s skills compared to his/her current school expectations.

3. Identify interests, strengths, and areas for growth. 

4. Develop a targeted plan to re-teach, pre-teach, or extend the student’s cognition as needed. Identify any learning gaps that are negatively impact current performance. 

5. Share learning and development goals with the parent/guardian.

6. Communicate with the parent/guardian after every session to update progress and goals through a Summary & Invoice document.

7. Ongoing process, regularly repeating the process.   

Curriculum

The model my work with a student after the learning standards and expectations currently being used in his/her school. Deep knowledge of the curriculum and assessments used in most states allows me to adapt my lessons to what the student is accustomed to daily.

As I develop individualized plans, I use a variety of resources:

• Appropriate and reliable websites & applications: study.com, education.com, Quizlet, IXL, pbslearningmedia.com, epic.com, pear assessment, blooket, other .org and .edu sites appropriate to the age and content of the student.

• Resources from the State Department of Education in the student state.

• Personally created resources gathered over 30 years’ experience in education or developed as part of the student’s targeted plan.

Goals

Overall Goal: To make a positive difference in the lives of the student and his/her family through education.

Typical Goals Each Session:

• Collaboratively complete schoolwork, as needed.

• Work within areas for growth.

  • Start with activities in which the student is confident and highly accurate independently.

  • Progressively build skills, a little at a time, giving the student continual opportunities to review and practice.   

• Extend grade level concepts in depth and complexity. Include student interest areas.

Fees

$50/hour – This includes all the research, planning, and development as well ongoing monitoring, communication, and follow up.

All sessions are held via zoom.

Payments are accepted via PayPal, Zelle, or Venmo.

Assurances

1. I will never charge more than $50/hour, and there are no taxes or additional fees.

2. I will be 100% transparent in my work with your child and in my fees.

3. I will keep your child’s best interest, open communication, and fair and honorable practices at the forefront of all work.

4. We will sign an Agreement for Services before beginning, and you will receive a Summary & Invoice after each session.
